I’ve had a fascination with watches since I was quite young. I remember my father always wearing a watch and telling me how important it was to have a nice one. There were many lessons from him about looking after the timepieces. I recall how much I loved winding it up to make sure it didn’t slow or even worse, stop. The thought of my watch stopping horrified me as a young child, I always wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing, and in my mind, that was making sure the time was always spot. Another lesson was in being prepared. My father always carried around a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife, nothing was a problem as out would come this wonderful object with the signature red to save the day!
My fascination with watches has grown considerably over the years and I can spend hours mesmerised by timepieces. One that has my full admiration is the Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance watch, and not just because of my childhood memories. Although the self-winding ETA 2824 movement in this year’s model does help ease my mind of the thought of a watch stopping, especially due to its robustness and reliability. An absolutely beautiful Swiss-Made watch, I had to share with you my thoughts and the wonderful features.
Why I love the Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance Watch.
I’ve long been a fan of red, it’s the connection to passion I’m sure and all those problem solving memories from way back. The 2014 model boasts just enough of the famous and distinctive red that Victorinox is known for. It features on the second hand, as well as on the classic inscription “AUTOMATIC” on all colour options. Available with either a dark grey or eggshell dial, the red sits back perfectly with both. Combine this with the strap/bracelet, in a black ecologically tanned leather or a polished and satined steel, and you are going to find it hard to actually choose which one you like the most.
I am quite fond of clean lines and the Alliance delivers in this area. A classic look that keeps it simple, yet excels in its function in a way that one comes to expect from Victorinox Swiss Army. The 40mm diameter polished stainless steel case has a triple anti-reflection treatment on a scratch resistant sapphire. It is water resistant to 10 ATM (100 metres / 330 feet) and a screwed on case back. You are not going to lose track of the date either, with the date window at 6 o’clock. The brushed sunray finish dial has subtle embossed military time and pyramid-shaped indexes that are polished, allowing it to capture and reflect the light. At 12 o’clock the Swiss cross emblem sits, combined with 3, 6 and 9 o’clock showing Arabic numerals.
The Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance Watch is stylish, elegant and functional with amazing quality from a brand that has a long standing history dating back 130 years. The watch has a three-year guarantee and its design is timeless. What else can I say other than this watch is definitely for the man with style.
