Kick Start Monday is back! I must have been looking with my eyes closed last week when I didn’t see this project I am sharing today. I love when a garment is loved in the process of the making and every detail encompasses beautiful design, good function and high quality. Dillon Montara is a denim collection from Robert Patterson and Steven Heard, based in Northern California.[kickstarter url=http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/925436130/dillon-montara-handmade-menswear-from-mission-san width=480]
The denim line utilises their many years of experience with denim with the jean ‘made slowly by hand’ from their Mission District of San Francisco factory. The silhouette on offer is a mid rise, slim tapered jean, not a skinny leg, not a straight leg, but a nice tapered fit. It’s minimal, clean and with all the things you want in a jean, including comfort. The detailing is beautiful, with the best in trims, materials and finishes. All the pockets are lined with Destroyer Twill Pocketing, with the coin pocket also lined for extra wear. In the video you can see the inside of the jean and how wonderful the quality is. It’s not all machine made either. If they can do it better by hand, then it’s done by hand. Time is taken to ensure the quality is of the highest standard.
Three fabrics are available in the jean. Firstly, The American, a 12.75oz cone selvedge milled fabric from North Carolina with a soft, natural hand feel. A great jean for daily wear. Next is the Pure Japan Blue, a 14.75oz indigo dyed Okayama milled selvedge blue Slubby. The fabric has a beautiful orange selvedge detail at the end of the ream which can be seen internally and on the cuff. Thicker than The American it is more rigid with a heavier weight. Lastly is The Noir – Kurobo Mills, a 15oz sulfer dyed Okayama milled Black Noir Selvedge in Super Black.
Alongside the core style in the jean, Dillon Montara also make slim fit (not skinny) shirts made from 100% Japanese Fabric, jackets and accessories. I particularly love the Key Chain. Inspired by Japanese fishermen, it comes with a leather dongle and brass key fob. Truly beautiful and a simple, clean design.
The good news it this project has exceeded it’s goal and will be funded on Valentines Day, Friday, 14 February, 2014.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFxjMr94dXg&w=560&h=315]
