My favourite menswear stylist and good friend Caz Little, from Dashing Hounds in Melbourne, has had a busy start to 2014. Caz and I are always talking men’s style inspiration and we’ve decided each month on The Man Has Style we will bring to you a Dashing Hounds update! A short, snap-shot of what’s been happening, what’s coming up and a style tip or two along the way. Caz always has something going on so it’s wonderful to be able to share this news with you each month. Here’s your first of the monthly Dashing Hounds Menswear Updates!

TMHS: January has gone so fast, what did you work on with Dashing Hounds during this time?

CL: I didn’t really stop working on Dashing Hounds through January. I like to keep the ball rolling if I can. It’s an especially good way of beating the Melbourne heatwave by shopping and working indoors. A highlight for Dashing Hounds was styling the Grammy nominated future-soul band from Melbourne, Hiatus Kaiyote. Taking the guys out on a Saturday shopping frenzy in between their busy rehearsals and recordings, I styled the guys together with Melbourne stylist Amie Turnbull. Bender, Simon and Perrin from the band, are the music behind the voice of Nai Palm. The boys were more than happy to escape the hot studio for an afternoon of jean shopping at Res Denim, shirts and jackets at Handsom Clothing on Gertrude Street and hunting for belts, shoes & accessories from the men’s room at the Vintage Garage on Smith Street.

January also saw publicity shooting for Channel 9 TV show, Fat Tony and Co, amongst other things. The best way to know is as it’s happening is to follow @dashinghounds on Instagram so you can keep up to date.

TMHS: Style tip for Australian men for February?

CL: Get your self organised now for Winter! I know its hard for us to get our head around with summer in full swing, but it’s that time where winter collections are landing in store! Honestly, it is the best time to purchase new suits, shirts, ties and freshen up your wardrobe. Try something new and invest in a grey suit. Dry clean your current ones in your wardrobe. If you’re short on free time or just don’t even know where to start, Dashing Hounds can help you organise your wardrobe and take you shopping in just a few of hours!

TMHS: Any events coming up to keep an eye out for?

CL: Is it February already!?  Eating too many dumplings at Hu-Tongs for Chinese New Year and checking out the city lights for the White Night festival are February events! I’ll be sure to keep you posted on social media if I hear of anything else exciting for this month.  

TMHS: Who should we follow on Instagram for some great men’s styling inspiration?

CL: A Poor Man’s Millions. An inked up gentleman by the name of Jared Acquaro. Jared is a stylist and shoe specialist at Henry Bucks on Collins Street, Melbourne. Jared really knows his shoes! I recently added him to my Dashing Hounds Pack this month too, which he was very appreciative of and kind enough to repost Dashing Hounds on his Instagram to say thank you. Such a gentleman!

TMHS: Favourite look and/or collection from the Autumn Winter 2014-2015 shows earlier this month?

CL: To be honest, I really have not had much time to take a really good look at the recent shows. I have however, had sneak peak of the Fall HUGO collections and love what I saw in the more younger driven collections, with sleek slim tailoring, leather lapel detailing and the return of grey in suiting to prove my point on grey suiting. Also, the double-breasted reefer jacket. I really am excited about this look coming through more in menswear! Worn the right way, I think it could be here to stay for a few seasons.

TMHS: Designer/brand to watch in menswear?

CL: Hardy Amies. While it’s been around a long time in the UK, it’s only been in the Australian market now less than two years, with the brand really taking off in the past six months at David Jones. Hardy Amies is my go to brand for a classic white slim cut shirt. Fresh white, 100% cotton with a textured surface, in the best slim cut fit I have seen on all different body shapes and sizes. The shirt also features in a french cuff. It’s an absolute necessity in every man’s wardrobe.
